PLAIN_COFFEE

About the Project

The simplicity of the project was defined from the very beginning — starting with the name of the café, Plain, reflecting its meaning: clear and straightforward. Removing the unnecessary and focusing on the essentials amidst visual noise and information overload shaped the minimalist design, directing guests’ attention to what truly matters.

Plain is a space where we sought to bring our idea to life: that within a clean, unadorned environment, minimal design interventions can create a functional and comfortable interior, asking the question, “What is important for us today?” The café’s founder was deeply involved in the project and attentive to every detail, which required us to be deliberate with every design decision, ensuring that each element served the concept.

Layout

The main strength of the café is its layout: simple, clear, and intuitive from the moment guests enter. The space allows visitors to navigate easily and enjoy their time comfortably. At the heart of the room is the bar counter with the coffee machine. Despite the total area of just 60 m², the café feels spacious: in addition to the bar and display counter, there are eight small tables and a large communal table, specifically designed for this space.

Concept

It is known that a cluttered interior can reduce perception and focus by up to 30%. The design of the café therefore concentrates on three key elements: light-colored walls as a clean canvas, wood and metal as the primary materials for furniture, and carefully curated accents.

A few custom-designed light fixtures, a mirrored strip along the wall, and a bookshelf serve as the main decorative elements. Most of the space is intentionally left free for light, air, the aroma of coffee, and the scent of fresh pastries.
