About the Project

A contemporary apartment for a man, spanning 69 sq m. A standout detail is the custom stainless-steel shelving, centrally positioned to divide the entry, corridor, and bathroom from the living and sleeping areas.

Layout

The project presented several challenges: in addition to low ceilings, two structural pilasters occupy the center of the space. The apartment was delivered as a shell, with relatively successful zoning provided by the developer, so the main functional blocks did not need to be relocated. A major advantage is the tall windows with views over Kumysnaya Polyana, the city’s natural park.

Thoughtful spatial arrangement allowed the pilasters to be incorporated seamlessly, one of which sits between the dining area and the bright living room. The single bathroom is particularly practical, with two access points — from both the corridor and the master suite.

An unusual zoning element in this project is the use of functional partitions. One separates the bathroom from the bedroom and is made of glass to allow natural light in. A metal shelving unit defines the entry, corridor, and bathroom, visually connecting these areas with the living space.

Concept

Finishes include Hain engineered wood, porcelain stoneware for floors and walls, oak veneer, and English paints. Enamel details in the millwork and natural fabrics diversify the material palette. In the public zone, continuous walls painted in a warm Little Greene tone serve as a backdrop for bespoke elements. The bedroom features a rich dark chocolate color, highlighting the green upholstery of the bed.

Due to the apartment’s compact size, all built-in furniture, including the kitchen, was custom-made by a local carpentry workshop. Carefully calculated dimensions and detailed joinery make the space highly practical.

The transition from the rear entryway to the kitchen-living area is marked by a black stainless-steel shelving unit, housing the owner’s decor as well as a small lounge corner with a Calligaris armchair. Verticality is enhanced with full-height doorways. Key decorative highlights include a sculpture by Nikolay Kamyshnikov and a painting by Erik Shutov from the ST contemporary gallery.
