About the Project

Haute Couture Coffee is a coffee shop located in Moscow’s Afimall shopping center. Within a compact footprint, we aimed to create a complete interior with a distinct identity — one that feels less like a conventional retail coffee point and more like an independent architectural space.

The space remains visually open to its surroundings: the interior is clearly visible from the main circulation area, while the bar, display counter, lighting, and seating are composed as a single architectural ensemble. The contrast between a cool mineral palette and warm metallic surfaces creates a restrained yet distinctive character.

Layout

The layout is organized around a central working area and efficient circulation. The main service line — including equipment, storage, and work surfaces — is arranged along the wall, leaving the central area open for both staff and customer movement.

The bar and freestanding display counter form the compositional core of the coffee shop. Set at an angle to the main geometry of the space, the central volume guides circulation and makes the display clearly visible from the shopping gallery.

Seating is positioned primarily along the perimeter. A continuous upholstered bench with compact tables runs along one wall, while individual tables and chairs occupy the more open part of the coffee shop. Additional seating at the bar accommodates shorter visits and creates a more direct connection between guests and the coffee-making process.

Concept

The interior is based on a dialogue between industrial architecture and the aesthetics of haute couture. The exposed ceiling and visible technical infrastructure provide a neutral industrial backdrop for the more expressive materials below.

Stone with a pronounced natural pattern creates a monolithic architectural envelope, stainless steel emphasizes the functional character of the workspace, while brass surfaces introduce warmth and become the main material accent.

The furniture is deliberately minimal and sculptural. Simple geometric volumes are intersected by angled planes, giving the impression of bespoke objects designed specifically for the space. A large spherical pendant becomes the main visual focal point, its delicate, almost weightless structure contrasting with the solidity of stone and metal.

The result is an interior defined not by decoration, but by material, proportion, light, and precision of detail — principles that translate the idea of Haute Couture into architecture.
